Biography

Gary Hack.jpgIn June 1969, my wife, Diane, and I moved to Antioch.  I came to teach elementary school in the Antioch Unified School District.  My three children are products of Sutter Elementary, Park Middle and Antioch High schools.  I was a classroom teacher for 31 years.  Every day I walked on campus I was always amazed that parents brought to me their most prized possession – their child – and asked that I do everything I could possibly do to make their child a better person by making a difference in their lives; an awesome responsibility and a great opportunity.

In 2000, I left the classroom when I was elected by the teachers in the Antioch Unified School District to be the President of the Antioch Education Association.  For 10 years, I consistently worked with employees in the Antioch Unified School District at all levels and sites – as well as with students and their parents – to make education in the Antioch Unified School District as good as it could be.

Along the way, in 2003, I was ordained as a permanent deacon in the Catholic Church.  I have been assigned to the St. Ignatius Catholic Church for the past eight years in a number of ministries helping others.

In November 2010, I was elected to the Antioch Unified School District School Board of Education following my retirement the pervious June.  It is another avenue, another opportunity, to continue my journey of the past 41 years working in public education and all it brings to the table.

I care about Antioch students and their families.  I care about those who work with them.  I care about public education – I truly believe that – together – in trying times, we can make it happen.
